Japanese drums were donated to Nippon Rowa Gakko
2005 - 2006
Nippon Rowa Gakko (Japan Oral School for the Deaf) is Japan's only private school for deaf-mutes, opened in 1920 by Mr. and Mrs. Reischauer, Doctors of Divinity. The school follows the same history as the Tokyo RC, coincidently founded in 1920. So we have donated to the school for a long time.
This year, we donated a complete set of ¡ÈJapanese drums¡É with a subsidy of district contributions from the Rotary Foundation as well as financial assistance. At the donation ceremony, eight members gathered including Mr. Nagashima, President and Mr. Gemma, Director of Community Service. They were able to experience beating the drums with the children, through the impassioned coaching by a music teacher at the school.
The school has promoted children to use state-of-the-art hearing aids when they were toddlers, and aims at making children grow to ¡Èbe able to listen¡É and ¡Èbe able to speak¡É using their latent ¡Èability to listen.¡É Many graduates from this school have gone to regular high schools, obtained advanced education, and succeeded in a broader range of social fields. If you wish to support the school, donations from individual and corporations are welcome.
